Botox Cosmetic & Dysport

What is Botox  & Dysport?     Botox & Dysport are purified proteins used to temporarily relax the wrinkle-causing muscles of the forehead, around the corners of the eyes (crow’s feet) and between the eyebrows.

How is Botox  & Dysport used?     Botox & Dysport improves the appearance of worry & frown lines, laugh lines and other dynamic wrinkles on the face.  There is no recovery or downtime.

What can I expect? It only takes about 10 minutes – a few tiny injections – and within days there  is a noticeable improvement. A tiny needle injects a very small amount of Botox  or Dysport precisely into several locations on the face. Because the needle is  so fine and only a small amount of liquid is used, the pain associated with the  injections is minimal. No sedation is required; however, some patients prefer  that we use a local anesthetic to numb the skin prior to the injections. You  can drive yourself home or back to work. Some patients experience a slight  temporary bruising at the injection site which can usually be covered with  make-up.

How long do the effects last?     The results can last up to 4 months, but this depends on the patient and the severity of the wrinkle.

Restylane

What is Restylane?     Restylane is a safe and natural cosmetic dermal filler that restores  volume and fullness to the skin. Restylane is the first cosmetic dermal filler  made of non-animal based hyaluronic acid which is a natural substance that  already exists in the human body.

How is Restylane used?     Restylane is used to correct the moderate to severe facial wrinkles and  folds, such as nasolabial folds (the crease from each side of the nose to the  corner of the mouth), the marionette lines (the crease from each corner of the  mouth downward) and to produce a fullness in the upper and lower lips.

What can I expect? Restylane requires no pretesting. A few precautions should be taken before  being treated. Avoid using aspirin, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory  medications, St. John’s  Wort, or high doses of Vitamin E supplements prior to treatment. These may  increase bruising or bleeding at the injection site. Also, if you have  previously suffered from facial cold sores, there is a risk that the needle  punctures could contribute to another recurrence. The most commonly reported  side effects were temporary redness and swelling at the injection sites. These  effects typically resolve within two to three days.

Restylane is injected directly into the skin in tiny amounts by an ultrafine needle resulting in minimal discomfort.  The procedure is simple and convenient, and results are practically instantaneous.  To optimize your comfort during the short procedure, a topical anesthetic can be applied to the treatment area prior to receiving the injections.

How long do the effects last?     Studies have shown that the average treatment results last six months or even longer. Restylane lasts twice as long as collagen, so treatments are typically scheduled twice a year.  Evidence shows that having a touch-up treatment before the product has fully dissipated will enhance the lasting effect.

Sculptra

Sculptra

What is Sculptra?     Sculptra is a poly-L-lactic acid that is a synthetic polymer from the fruit acid family that does not harm the body and is biodegradable or metabolized by the body.

How is Sculptra used?     Sculptra therapy is used as a dermal filler to help correct skin depressions such as wrinkles, creases, folds, scars, hollow eye rings, degenerative skin aging and facial lipoatrophy (fat loss).

What can I expect? The results from Sculptra are not immediate. You will have swelling from the  injections and the water used to dilute the solution that will last a few days.  Over the following weeks and months, as your body produces new collagen, the  tissue volume in the treated area will gradually build up.

How long do the effects last?     Most areas of treatment will require 2 to 4 sessions, usually at 4 to 6 week intervals, for optimal correction.  Depending on the area and condition treated, the volume of Sculptra used and the injection technique, the effects of a completed Sculptra treatment may last from 1 to 2 years plus.

What can I expect? Some patients may experience minimal to moderate swelling and possible bruising  at the injection site along with some tenderness for a few days.

How long do the effects last? Radiesse should provide a correction that lasts approximately 1 year, though  individual results may vary based on age, metabolism, skin type, lifestyle and  muscle activity.

Superficial Chemical Peel

What is Superficial Chemical Peel?     Superficial Chemical Peel is the mildest available type of chemical peel usually composed of alphahydroxy acids, to refresh the look of the skin.

How is Superficial Chemical Peel used?     Superficial Chemical Peel preparation begins two to three weeks before the peel with a cleansing routine that helps remove oil from the skin to allow for more consistent results.  During a superficial peel, the chemical is applied to the skin and then removed after several minutes.  Glycolic, salicylic, and lactic acid peels can be used on all skin types.

What can I expect?  Downtime is minimal and most people can return to work or activities immediately after treatment.  Your skin may appear pink or red for a few hours and occasionally will flake and peel over several days.  Proper cleaning, moisturizing, and protection from the sun can aid in skin maintenance.  Dr. Niren recommends a combination of home care products, sun screen, sun avoidance, hydration for the skin, and cessation of smoking for best and longest lasting results.

How long do the effects last?     Results of a glycolic acid, salicylic acid, or lactic acid peel are immediate; however, they   require repeat treatments every two to four weeks.

TCA Medium-Depth Chemical Peel

What is a TCA Peel?     TCA Peels are intermediate depth chemical peels performed by  the physician. They are highly effective in promoting skin smoothness &  vitality, improving superficial discoloration and eliminating fine wrinkles.

How are TCA Peels  used?     TCA Peels are ideal for someone who wants more than a  superficial peel to accomplish facial rejuvenation. This 15 to 30 minute procedure  requires the application of trichloroacetic acid. When the desired depth has  been achieved, the physician will neutralize the peel and advise post-procedure  instructions.

What can I expect?     A burning sensation is felt as the TCA solutions is applied  to the skin. This lasts about 2 to 10 minutes. Once the area has been neutralized,  the discomfort subsides. Within a few days, the superficial layers of skin will  turn dark, crack, flake and peel. Flaking is usually complete in 4 to 7 days. Once  the old skin has sloughed, new skin will be bright and flushed, fading slowly  over several weeks. Although makeup can be applied once the peeling is  finished, your appearance may preclude returning to public activities  comfortably for up to 7 days.

How long do the effects last? Intermediate depth peels will last 6 months to 2 years.

How is Vibraderm used?     Vibraderm utilizes gentle ultrasonic vibration to exfoliate the skin.

What can I expect?  This treatment produces exfoliation on any part of the body. The process is fast and very comfortable for the patients and produces exceptional results. 75-85% of the stratum corneum is removed in minutes and prepares the skin for many additional procedures.

How long do the effects last?    Experience more luminous, vibrant, and youthful looking skin after just one treatment.  A series of 5 treatments is recommended for best and longest lasting results.

Hair Transplants and Restoration

What is Hair Transplantation?   Hair transplantation is minor outpatient surgery because it only deals with the outermost layers of the body: the epidermis and the dermis, which contain the hair follicles (roots).

What is Hair Restoration?  Hair restoration includes the medical and surgical treatment of various forms of hair loss.

What can I expect?  Permanent, lifetime hairs are found in good supply in virtually all men, concentrated in a horseshoe-shaped area at the very back of the head. This region is called the “donor area.” Hair transplantation uses excess hairs from this donor area and relocates them to the frontal area of thinning and balding on top or at the front of the head.

Dr.  Niren’s methods provide oral, topical and surgical procedures to resolve hair loss in both men and women.  For additional information  or to schedule a consultation,  please call 412-367-0808
